This week’s wine pick: Chateau Ste. Michelle 2006 Indian Wells Merlot $16

By wineexp

One of the reasons we like Merlot is that it’s just such an easy-drinking red wine that’s ready for about any occasion.  And that’s a perfect description of my wine recommendation this week, Chateau St. Michelle 2006 Indian Wells Merlot.

This week's pick

This is a bountiful Merlot from Washington State.  It comes from vineyards east of the Cascades and along the Columbia River.  What makes it so good is the satisfying burst of ripe dark fruity aromas and then the taste of jammy berries!

This is a soft and juicy wine with a really lush feel to it when you take a sip.  Classic Merlot drinkability for sure, but there’s more:  an extra layer of plum and pepper and more backbone.  And there’s a good reason for that extra depth… St. Michelle adds some Syrah to it.

The Indian Wells Merlot is a terrific wine for barbecue time and casual summer meals.  Enjoy it for about sixteen dollars.
